Making metal products at Welder Girl fabrication studio always starts with a bit of plasma torching, cutting, hammering, bending, and grinding, before getting to the welding part. Since metal often comes in long heavy sheets or 20 foot long sticks, there is a lot of finesse in fabrication in order to get the metal into the shape I'm going for. Air Plant Stand bases start out as a 4 foot by 8 foot long sheet that's 3/8" thick. That's a heavy piece! To cut this up, I use a plasma torch held at a deep angle to cut out circular shapes that highlight the thickness of the metal. See how it's done in this video.
